Q1: How do you define access at your institution and in your work?

A1: For me access is about being proactive vs. reactive. it’s more than just alt tags and meaningful links. It’s about building a community where all students feel welcomed, seen, and represented. #LDxIDchat

A1: I like the idea of access as a community. It get's tricky in IT as many view access as permisson levels and secuirty, so there is still some education that needs to happpen. #LDxIDchat

Q3: What is a challenge you face while attempting to teach others about access in online courses? Feel free to respond to other challenges you may see with possible solutions!

A3: Buy-in. In initial movements towards access in online courses, the focus was on ensuring all documents, pages, etc. were accessible. While this is 100% valid, I think it burnt a lot of people out. I'm focusing now on changing the mindset towards access. #LDxIDchat

A3: Accurate captions have been a perennial challenge and topic of conversation. There's been a few ideas proposed (student workers, dedicated pot of money) but it's a conversation in progress. #LDxIDchat https://t.co/xokNigCLKA

It's difficult when the acceasibilty needs butt up against the instructors practices. With exams, as an example, you have to decide on whether to just fix a tech issue or open a whole conversation around the effectiveness of using an exam to begin with. #LDxIDchat

Q5: For those interested in learning more about access, equity, and inclusion, what resource would you recommend?

A5: I have been reading (and by that I mean the introduction) "Reach Everyone, Teach Everyone." It has helped so far in changing how I look at accessibility (hence the topic called access, rather than accessibility). #LDxIDchat
