Recently, I was informed that the science department has a class set of Nooks that are available for students to use. Due to this, I have decided that I am going to begin using these to get students excited about coming to class and using technology to enhance the learning.
One way I am going to do this is by creating a class site on Haiku LMS. In a past graduate course, I had used Haiku LMS to create an online course. I believe that this will be the easiest to navigate for students and will allow me to include all of things that I want to make my course more engaging. As I was creating the site, I was becoming excited about unveiling this to my students. I think they will be excited to receive papers on their site and to watch videos on the Nooks to help them become interested in the unit we will be studying. Below are some pictures of the website I created for my Science 7 class.
Another technology that I am going to implement into the classroom is edpuzzle. Edpuzzle allows the teacher to assign videos to his/her class. You can delete certain parts of the video and you can add questions to check understanding. By incorporating this, I hope to engage students when introducing a new concept or reinforce concepts that they may not be proficient in. With Edpuzzle, I can assign certain videos to certain students. So, I can divide up a concept or I can reinforce concepts.
Third, I want to begin playing Kahoot with the students to review for tests. Kahoot allows students to play individually and guess what the answer to a question is. To earn points, students must answer the question correctly and quickly.
Finally, using Plickers will make grading easier and engage students in getting the correct answer. Plickers allows for easy formative assessments after a lesson.
Hopefully, with these technological implementations, I will be able to engage my students in new and exciting ways and enhance their learning.
